Radio station 100% NL places André Hazes figurine in Madurodam for 75th birthday
To mark what would have been André Hazes’ 75th birthday, 100% NL has had a miniature version of the folk singer placed in Madurodam. The news was announced this morning in the morning show hosted by Giorgio Hokstam and Ingrid Jansen. 100% NL DJ Barry Paf was present at the attraction park in The Hague to officially unveil the figurine.
Although André Hazes passed away almost 22 years ago, his music remains as popular as ever. On 100% NL, he is consistently the most-listed artist in the annual Meezing Top 1000. Last year, he featured in the chart with no fewer than 20 songs.
Visitors to Madurodam can view the figurine from today. This morning, listeners of 100% NL also had the chance to win free tickets to the attraction park during the morning show. To take part, listeners had to sing along to their favourite Hazes hit and send it in via the radio station’s app.
Giorgio Hokstam: “André Hazes lives on at our station. We play his music every day, so we wanted to honour him on his 75th birthday in a special and respectful way.”
Ingrid Jansen adds: “From today, André Hazes can be admired on the 100% NL Sing-Along Square. He stands there on a stage, with the Royal Palace on Dam Square in the background and a square full of singing listeners. A place that perfectly suits the artist he was.”
Barry Paf adds from the unveiling: “We put ‘Bloed, Zweet & Tranen’ into this, and André Hazes certainly won’t have an ‘Eenzame Kerst’ here, because he is surrounded by lots of listeners.”
Madurodam also sees the figurine as a fitting addition to the park. “At Madurodam, we bring together the best of the Netherlands: from iconic buildings and stories to remarkable people who have shaped our country,” says Nina Ceric, communications manager at Madurodam. “André Hazes is a wonderful example of that. His music is part of the collective memory of the Netherlands and continues to connect generations. That is exactly why this tribute fits so well in Madurodam.”
This is not the first time 100% NL has immortalised a Dutch artist in Madurodam. Previously, Ilse DeLange was also given her own place in the attraction park through the station.
The morning show with Giorgio & Ingrid can be heard every weekday between 06:00 and 10:00 on 100% NL.
