During the event, SLAM! DJs Julia Maan and Marijn Oosterveen cycled with their own teams. Marijn Oosterveen and his team raised €12,974, while Julia Maan and hers raised a total of €11,346. Notable was the contribution from Prince Floris of Orange to Team Julia, who raised €3,652. The youngest son of Princess Margriet and Pieter van Vollenhoven cycled today after being moved by the story of Julia and her mother, who has breast cancer. “The only thing you can do is participate,” said Floris of Orange.
Another notable participant was Mees Hessels, the well-known Dutch para-athlete. He played wheelchair basketball at a high level in Germany and is active as a para-ice hockey player in the Netherlands. Due to a benign tumor at birth, his entire left leg and part of his right leg do not function. Thanks to a handbike, arranged by the SLAM! Middagshow, he was able to complete the six-hour marathon.
