Mediahuis is proud to announce that several of its news brands have been officially recognized as partners of The Trust Project: a global initiative that unites more than 300 news organizations around transparency, reliability, and responsible journalism.
The Aachener Zeitung, Belfast Telegraph, and Irish Independent have successfully completed The Trust Project's implementation process and received the official Trust Mark. At the end of July, the news brands of Mediahuis Luxembourg (Luxemburger Wort, Luxembourg Times, Virgule, Contaco, and Telecran) already preceded them. NRC will follow shortly. This means that our titles now belong to the international network of news organizations that are actively committed to transparent and responsible journalism.
At a time when disinformation and polarization are making the media landscape more complex, it is more important than ever for news media to distinguish themselves through reliability, integrity, and transparency. By joining The Trust Project, these news brands are underlining their ongoing commitment to journalism that is worthy of the trust of readers, viewers, and listeners, both today and in the future.
The editorial teams involved endorse the eight Trust Indicators: journalistic principles developed worldwide in collaboration with editorial teams and the public. These indicators provide insight into who is responsible for an article, what sources have been used, how the news is produced, and how the public can provide feedback. This transparency helps news users to better assess the reliability of information and contributes to strengthening trust in independent news sources.
Mediahuis sees this recognition as a logical step within its broader social role as a publisher.
Caroline Swanenberg, Head of Sustainability at Mediahuis Group: "As a media group, we want to contribute to a strong, free, and responsible press that supports democratic society. For us, reliability is not an empty concept, but a shared responsibility of every editorial team within our group. Joining The Trust Project underlines our unconditional belief in independent journalism that informs, connects, and is supported by transparency and integrity."
About The Trust Project
The Trust Project is a global initiative founded by journalist Sally Lerhman. It builds on the principles of the Hutchins Commission (1947), which emphasized the importance of a free and responsible press. The eight Trust Indicators form a practical framework that news organizations worldwide can use to demonstrate their journalistic integrity.
With this accession, Mediahuis joins a growing network of leading news organizations that want to make a difference in a fragmented media landscape.
