The crime podcast De Onderwereld by De Limburger has been nominated for a Dutch Podcast Award in the ‘Informative Chatcast’ category. This means that the podcast, which was only launched in April this year, is in the running for one of the most important podcast prizes in the Netherlands.
The professional jury nominated De Onderwereld in the ‘Informative Chatcast’ category because of its combination of in-depth journalism and compelling storytelling. Through the podcast, the creators make complex crime cases accessible to a broad audience and shed light on the background of high-profile criminal investigations.
In De Onderwereld, crime reporter Bas Dingemanse takes listeners and viewers inside major criminal cases, large-scale investigations and hidden (international) criminal networks. Through Dingemanse’s in-depth journalistic research and the compelling storytelling of scriptwriters Rik van Hulst and Judith Janssen, De Onderwereld makes complex case files accessible to a broad audience and provides context to the events behind the news. Presented by Bas van Mulken.
For Editor-in-Chief Bjorn Oostra, the nomination confirms the power of journalism that extends beyond traditional formats. "With De Onderwereld, we show how complex and relevant stories can be told in a new way, without compromising journalistic quality. The fact that this approach is now being recognised by the professional jury makes us extremely proud."
In addition to the jury nomination, De Onderwereld is also in contention for the Audience Award. Fans of the podcast can cast their vote and help decide which podcast takes home the audience favourite prize.
On the evening of 3 November, it will be announced whether De Onderwereld can convert its jury nomination into a win and claim the Audience Award. The winners will be revealed during the Dutch Podcast Awards ceremony at the Netherlands Institute for Sound & Vision in Hilversum.
