Bring the North into focus

Bring the North into focus

Noorderframe is a new platform for photo and video journalism in the northern Netherlands, an initiative of Dagblad van het Noorden, Leeuwarder Courant, and Friesch Dagblad. At Noorderframe, you can discover how image makers and journalists view, select, and depict. Why reliability matters. What can be newsworthy. And how images can be moving.

Have you taken a special photo or video of news in Friesland, Groningen, or Drenthe this year? Or perhaps a powerful portrait of a northern Dutch person who was meaningful to you? Send in your best image and enter the Noorderframe competition!

Your perspective

Whether it's northern news with a twist, a personal story, or something you've experienced, we're curious to hear your perspective on 2025. Between December 1, 2025, and January 8, 2026, anyone—from professional press photographers to new talent—can submit their best photo or video for the Noorderframe competition 2025. The most surprising, moving, and talked-about images will win prizes and be showcased during a spectacular exhibition in the Grote Kerk in Dokkum from February 18 to 28.

About Noorderframe

With competitions, exhibitions, teaching materials, and stories, we invite everyone to portray the North in their own way. Noorderframe is a place where we hope to introduce (young) people to news and journalistic imagery in a fun way. On the website, you will find interactive quizzes, explainers, and stories from creators in the North. Visit www.noorderframe.nl for all the details about Noorderframe, the competition, and the exhibition. You can also buy tickets for the exhibition in advance at noorderframe.nl/tickets/.
