Mediahuis introduces Vertical Stories for advertisers

Mediahuis is expanding its online advertising options with Vertical Stories. With this new advertising format, brands can display vertical videos and images within the editorial environment of news websites. The content appears on homepages and article pages, where visitors consume news and information.

How do Vertical Stories work?

A familiar experience in a new environment

Vertical Stories match the way people consume content on social media. Visitors can swipe through different videos and images at their own pace. Advertisers can also add a call-to-action button, directing interested users straight to a website or product page.

The power of advertising in news media

For the development of Vertical Stories, Mediahuis worked with brands such as Bol, TUI and MediaMarkt. Their campaigns were used to test and further improve the format.

Research by MSI-ACI shows that advertising messages within news media are better remembered than those on social media. The measured index is 128. For certain brand image attributes, this rises to 148. Advertising in a news context can therefore contribute to a brand’s perceived reliability, expertise and likeability.

Availability and outlook

With Vertical Stories, Mediahuis combines the visual possibilities of social media with the benefits of advertising in a journalistic environment. This gives brands an additional way to reach their target audience in an interactive way.

From 1 November 2026, Vertical Stories will be available to advertisers in the Netherlands. The first performance figures and benchmarks for campaigns across Mediahuis titles are expected in January 2027.
