Autovisie names Alpine A290 GTS the sportiest affordable EV of 2025
French hot hatch wins first Autovisie EV Supertest.
In the latest edition of Autovisie magazine and online, Autovisie publishes the first electric Autovisie Supertest. In it, the editors hunted for the sportiest electric car under 55,000 euros.
Electric cars are often mostly about price, range, battery capacity and only then about driving pleasure. But in the first Autovisie Supertest the focus is precisely on sporty driving characteristics. Jaco Bijlsma, editor-in-chief of Autovisie, explains why: “Even an electric car can give you real driving pleasure through good suspension, communicative steering and playful driving characteristics.”
Autovisie holds a big Supertest every year at the TT Circuit in Assen, but for that circuit, affordable electric models lack speed and endurance. That’s why the editors diverted to a more suitable track for the electric test: Raceway Venray. “There we were able to test the sporty hatchbacks on fast oval sections and short technical corners, where the car’s agility is magnified,” says Bijlsma. “That’s where you notice how well they steer, brake and if they want to play a little bit. The good news is that there are cars among them that really handle well and love cornering. Finally electric cars that are not just stressful, but above all fun to drive.”
Autovisie tested sporty electric cars up to around 55,000 euros. Taking part in the EV Supertest were the Abarth 600, Alpine A290 GTS, Cupra Born VZ, MG XPower, Mini Cooper S and Smart Brabus. Read the full story in Autovisie magazine and also watch the video on Autovisie.nl.
